Implementation of "Microsoft Active Directory 2003" directory service in the Headquarters' premises of "VTB Bank"

To audit the IT infrastructure of the Organization.

To design naming strategy for objects of the IT infrastructure.

To ensure operability of business applications, as well as normal working conditions for the Organization's users.

To develop policy of access to the Organization's network resources and servers.

To develop structure of the file resources at "Windows Server 2003" servers.

Within the framework of the present Project "MS Active Directory 2003" domain structure was designed, developed, and implemented (the following requirements were established for this domain structure: scalability of the domain structure and its resistance to bugs, transient errors, soft faults, etc.).

In addition, the following problems were solved:

	Migration of users of "Novell Directory Service" to "MS Active Directory 2003" domain.
	Transfer of all workstations of users to Microsoft domain.
	To develop and implement additional network services – "DHCP", "WINS".
	The most problematical task, which was to be solved, was connected with migration of the relevant file resources.

Solving of this task was complicated by the factors as follows:

	absence of the comprehensive and detailed information on the procedure of performance of tasks and on the permits to access to the relevant file resources;
	availability of technological workstations, which used "Novell" file resources (operating systems of technological workstations - *nix and Windows);
	the problems and tasks, which used the file resources, were very critical for operation of the Organization;
	availability of implicit and undocumented mutual relations between various tasks and problems.

In order to solve this problem the following stages were organized within the framework of this Project:

	preparation of the register of various tasks and problems of the Bank. This register included the data as follows: goal of the task/problem; dependence on other tasks/problems; responsible administrators; list of the file resources that are used, and other technical information;
	preparation and further implementation of the structure of file resources and permits to these file resources;
	test migration of file resources and verification of the users' permits; at this stage, it was necessary to check operation of various applications with the rights that were granted;
	migration of file resources and test work of the Bank's employees (aimed at solving their specific tasks/problems) were organized in such a manner that the employees have used the actual data during the off hours in the Organization;
	normal work of the employees, who did not use "Novell" resources (during working hours already).

Administrators of the Headquarters have obtained the tool ("MS Active Directory 2003"), which allows to solve the main problems, with which the Customer has faced.

"Novell" servers were completely excluded from the IT-infrastructure of the Headquarters.

Introduction of branches of the Bank (which have well-developed structures) to the common domain of the Organization.

Execution of the pilot projects aimed at uniting of 2 branches of the Bank. Further scalability of the directory service for all branches of the Bank.
